The aim is to restore the tear oil layer by unplugging the glands. Occluded meibomian glands often re-occur so treatment has to be incorporated into the lifestyle.

Place a warm face towel over closed eye for three minutes. For the lower eyelid, place your finger horizontally just above your cheek bone - push up towards the eyelid, slowing the movement when the finger moves close to the eye. Repeat 5 times. Do the same for the upper eyelid - your horizontal finger moves downwards this time. These rigorous actions effectively press out the congealed oil. Now squeeze a Supranette wet wipe over the tip of a cotton bud and copy the video to clean the lid margin. Use a new bud for the other eye.

Now apply a cold face towel to contract the gland openings. When this regime is repeated regularly twice a day, symptoms improve within a few weeks. Thereafter re-treatment is required to prevent reoccurrence. The frequency of maintenance depends on the severity of the blockages. In stubborn cases an 8 week course of a special antibiotic with Theratears Nutrition may be required.
