As an optometrist with a specialist interest in macular degeneration I attended a conference at The Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow on November 30th 2009 where the medical notes of retired optician Harry Marsland and another patient with early macular degeneration, were presented along with the latest research on the protective role of macular pigments generally.
Without advanced notification, three national newspapers simultaneously ran Harry Marsland's story on December 11th 2009 and consequently every supplier of Macushield in the UK was inundated for requests for the product. Unfortunately this publicity occurred when national stock levels of Macushield were being deliberately reduced as a new version was being planned. Consequently, UK supplies of the old powder based capsule Macushield were exhausted within one day of the story.
Macushield has now changed to a sunflower oil-capsule because scientific research indicates superior absorption of Macushield's Meso-Z when dissolved in oil, however the formula is exactly the same as the original.
We have been able to offer a price reduction the prices for 6 and 12 months of Macushield.
