Where to go for SmartPlug treatment.

I routinely see people with dry eyes who are attending hospital eye departments but
are making no progress in their personal comfort. Dry eye is a complicated field.

Many patients travel from the London area for the SmartPlug treatment, in which
I specialise. Some have combined a sight seeing trip with treatment.

I have no idea who else offers them. I am just a practitioner specialising in a range
of dry eye treatments including SmartPlugs, which have the highest success rate.

It is entirely possible to combine a single consultation with treatment. There is no
recovery period or side effect. The plugs do not degrade. You can't feel the plug
going in. It is quite possible to drive afterwards for example.

Success varies from 30% better to a total cure. After care visits are always desirable
but not essential. Previous patients from afar have kept in contact by e-mail or
written notes of personal thanks.

In very dry cases the upper tear ducts may also be SmartPlugged. The effect is more
dramatic than with lower plugs alone. This would need another trip to Edinburgh.

SmartPlugs are £140 each - consultation time is one hour £58 - aftercare at standard rate £38

It is important to remember that the SmartPlug is only one of a range of treatments.
Available only to suitable patients following a consultation are

- a high definition non-newtonian lubricant (Netherlands) for accelerated corneal healing
- hypotonic drops (USA) which reactivate conjunctival goblet cells
- a dietary supplement exclusively for dry eyes
- antibiotic therapy to improve meibomian oil output
- bandage contact lenses

Please note I am unable to comment about the suitability of any of these without
actually examining you. I cannot supply them either, or discuss them with you over
the telephone.

I do, of course, relish the challenge of trying to cure your dry eyes and if you can make it to
Edinburgh I would be surprised if I could not help.

With very best wishes
