Eyecare Plus provides a walk-in free of charge emergency ophthalmic service for NHS Scotland.

Everyone in Scotland is entitled to a free NHS eye examination*. Some tests, which we normally do, are not  covered by the NHS and specialist one-hour consultations are extra too.

*For patients age 16 to 60 the NHS restricts the interval between routine check-ups to two years. There are exceptions for diabetic patients and those who suffer from glaucoma, ocular hypertension or, who are over 40, with a family history of glaucoma.  

This means that contact lens wearers and other patients wishing more frequent monitoring will need to fund their annual check privately or by Eyeplan membership.
